Transvaginal mesh is a medical device that is surgically implanted to female patients suffering from Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI) and Pelvic Organ Prolapse (POP). SUI occurs when there is a urine leakage as a result of pelvic muscles that are no longer able to support the urethra and bladder. POP mainly affects women after menopause, childbirth, and hysterectomy.

Thousands of women have received implants, but many of them suffered from the product’s side effects. On July 2011, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) started to investigate the products and issued a public safety warning.

Side Effects of Transvaginal Mesh

Serious complications and side effects of transvaginal mesh are but not limited to the following:
  • Occurences of Prolapse
  • Perforations in the bowel, bladder, and blood vessels

Transvaginal Mesh Lawsuit and Compensation

Studies revealed that 10% of women who undergone transvaginal mesh surgery have suffered severe complications. Thousands of lawsuits have been filed against mesh manufacturers, doctors, and hospitals. Patients claim that they were not given proper consultation and warnings against the possible side effects of TVM. They also claim that the manufacturers did not do a proper amount of testing and results evaluation before releasing the product into the market.

Product liability lawsuits have been filed against TVM manufacturers like Ethicon and Bard & Boston Scientific. Next year, on February 5, 2013, the first TVM Lawsuit will go on trial. Some predictions state that settlements can reach up to 1 million dollars in some cases.

A product liability lawyer or a transvaginal mesh lawyer can greatly help in determining whether a patient is eligible for compensation. It is greatly advised to take action fast because of the expected flood of lawsuits concerning transvaginal mesh.
